Dua for Entering the Masjid

Arabic Text

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Transliteration

Allāhumma-ftaḥ lī abwāba raḥmatik

Translation

"O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy."

When to Recite

This beautiful dua should be recited when entering the masjid (mosque) with your right foot first. It is a Sunnah practice that helps us remember the purpose of entering Allah's house - to seek His mercy, worship Him, and draw closer to Him.

The Wisdom Behind This Dua

When we enter the masjid, we are entering a sacred space dedicated to the worship of Allah. By asking Allah to open the doors of His mercy for us, we acknowledge:

Our need for Allah's mercy in all our affairs
That the masjid is a place where mercy descends
Our humility before entering His house
Our intention to benefit spiritually from our visit

Complete Etiquette

When entering:

Enter with your right foot first
Recite this dua
Proceed to pray two rak'ahs (Tahiyyat al-Masjid) if it's not a prohibited time

When leaving:
Recite: Allāhumma innī as'aluka min faḍlik (اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ)
"O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty"
